All the digital spaces we need to create content for can be overwhelming. Between batching content and trying to keep up with reel trends, it’s easy to forgot why we started a social media account in the fist place: to connect with real people. As a small business owner, your relationship with your audience is more than just numbers on a screen—it’s about building genuine connections that matter. In this blog post, we’ll explore why nurturing these connections is crucial and share some practical tips to help you deepen your bond with your audience.
I believe that having a connection with your audience is really important and it’s not for the reasons you think.
It’s not because I expect them to engage back, it’s not to increase any sort of metric, but it’s because it just feels good.
When we get wrapped up in beating the algorithm and constantly improving our Instagram, it sometimes takes the fun of it, right?
I take brand photos for female business owners because they are truly my favourite people on this earth. And I WANT to connect and help them.
Chances are you started your business because you love helping your ideal clients too. Lean into that.
Let that passion guide your content creation, and consider these tips for reigniting a deep connection with your audience:
Share a real story about starting your business and some of the challenges you’ve faced. We’re all here to connect with real humans and it’s super refreshing when someone keeps it real.
Comments can feel really transactional when we leave an emoji or a few words. You WANT to get to know your ideal client better so this is an opportunity to do so! Ask them what that vacation spot was, what inspired their post, or ask for their advice.
This is my favourite because I love showing my clients that I am always there for them. Pick someone you’ve worked with and ask if there is anything else you can help with.
You can specific with it, if it applies to your business. For example: I periodically ask my brand photo clients how using their photos is going. Their answer can give me insight into where they need more support and I might help them with scheduling or messaging, or anything that comes up.
Tuning into your client’s desires before a photoshoot is everything. If you understand what they like, what they need, and what they want to be feeling then you can showcase all these things in your photos.
Your photos can make your dream client feel instantly understood.
When it comes to connecting with your audience, personal brand photography works wonders. This is because it focuses on you as the face of your brand and deepens an emotional connection with your audience.

The most important thing is that we connect with our audience because we want to, not out of obligation.
