My partner and I moved to from Toronto to Orangeville right before the pandemic hit. I was so grateful to have more space during lockdown, but it wasn’t until about 2 years later that I started to get to know the community. I started working with local businesses, attending Dufferin Women in Business meetings, and had the opportunity to meet the entire Dufferin County Council!
Landing this gig meant a lot to me – not only as a small business member, but also as a community member. I was starting to feel this sense of belonging and community I never felt in Toronto – or anywhere else – for that matter.
I went to check out the venue at Monara Park beforehand, which sits on 18kms of trails and has quite the view! There was tons of space in the basement to set-up our studio lighting and backdrop. The plan was to get headshots of council members before and after the inaugural meeting.
This was also the first time I have ever attended an inaugural and it was a pretty cool experience! There is so much that goes on behind the scenes with local government that I had just never been exposed to.
We got through 23 headshots that day and it was so great to have a little moment with everyone individually. The photos are being displayed on the Dufferin County Council website and I love how professional and cohesive they look.
This was a definitely an opportunity I’ll never forget!
