I moved from Toronto to Orangeville right before the pandemic in 2019. It seems like when I was starting a new chapter, everything came to a ‘halt’. Worked slowed down and I was unable to meet people in the area. It has been so nice to start getting jobs locally and meeting people of the area. Julia and Caring had also moved from Toronto to a lovely little spot off Hockley Road. They wanted to invest in some Orangeville family photography before their youngest started walking!
It seems like their values aligned with mine right from the start! They wanted to keep things super authentic and natural looking. I was thrilled when they were up for shooting in their home! This is my absolute favourite place to shoot families because it is 100% authentic to them and you get such a feel for who they are when they are in an environment surrounded by their things. It doesn’t hurt that kids feel comfortable at home and there are tons of activities to engage them with.
We started the photoshoot underneath the gorgeous arched windows in their living room. The natural light was perfect and I focused on getting some individual shots of their youngest, Imogen. She was so sweet with sharing her toys and dancing. Her big sister came home from summer camp shortly afterwards and I was able to get shots of them playing together.
We moved outside for the last hour. Following my style, none of the photos were overly posed, but more about sitting with and having fun with each other. This worked well for their oldest, Aurelia, who’s enthusiasm and playfulness was so great to work with. I love thinking about ways to integrate regular routines and activities into photography sessions to keep everyone engaged.
