Different Types of Branding Photography
Brand Photography always seemed like somewhat of a vague term to me. What most people don’t realize is that there are many extensions of brand photography and they each serve a different purpose. Moreover, investing in a three-prong brand photography approach could be the solution you’ve been looking for when it comes to bringing your business to the next level. Here are the different types of Brand Photography:
Some might say this a category all on its own – and it can be – but I like to nestle it under Brand Photography because it does incorporate crucial brand elements, and it might be what your whole business is centred around.
You can have your standard product-on-white-background shots, which are great for an e-commerce shop, but more brands are getting creative with these shots to include more diversified content for social media and marketing by incorporating props or showing the product in use. For a service based business this might not apply as much.
Personal Brand Photography
Personal Brand Photography is something that has gained popularity in the last few years. With the rise of social media, everyone is looking to connect and you can leverage this desire in your business by making things a bit more personal.
Personal Brand Photography puts you at the forefront of your brand. It’s not so much about products or services, but rather your motive and your story behind creating your business.
It takes a little bit of vulnerability to open up on social media, but it creates a breeding ground for connection. And connection creates trust. And people would much rather buy from someone they trust.

Brand Lifestyle Photography
As I mentioned before, brands are straying away from your generic product photography to capture their products or services in real life applications. Hello, Lifestyle Photography!
It’s all about capturing things as they are. While a photoshoot will never be totally ‘natural’, the objective of Lifestyle Photography is to emulate that as close as you possibly can.
This is a great way to speak directly to your target audience about how your product or service fits perfectly into their ideal lifestyle – keyword being ‘ideal’. Let Lifestyle Photography show how your business solves problems or makes dreams come true.
Brand Photography is a beautiful thing when it’s done right. There are lots of ways to get creative with it and avoid ‘overselling’. I like to shift the emphasis from product or service to the person or team behind the brand.
Your story can attach so much meaning to what you’re offering. A good brand strategy will often include at least one of these types of photography, if not all. You’ve gotta hit ‘em with all ya got!
What type/s of photography do you think would be most effective for your brand?
